Ex-Tiger Dmitri Young arrested on drug charges

Former Tiger Dmitri Young was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and marijuana Monday in Illinois.

Young, 36, was released after posting $100 bond after being arrested at the Central Illinois Regional Airport in Bloomington.

Young, who retired as a major leaguer in March, is vice president and senior adviser of baseball operations and special hitting and fielding instructor for the Oakland County Cruisers minor league team.

Young played in Detroit from 2002-06 and had a career-high 29 home runs in 2003.

He rebounded from problems with alcohol, substance abuse and depression to become the National League Comeback Player of the Year in 2007 for the Washington Nationals.

Young played for St. Louis, Cincinnati, Detroit and Washington in a 13-year MLB career that began in 1996.

Young's brother, Delmon, plays for the Minnesota Twins.
