NFL player charged with battery on wife in Ocala

A local National Football League player was arrested by Ocala police Tuesday and charged with battery of his wife.

Police say Clinton G. Hart, 32, scuffled with his wife Kelli, 31, over a message posted to his Facebook account.

Kelli Hart said her husband never touched or threatened her, and that the arrest was a result of police stereotyping and racism.

Hart, a safety, played several years in the NFL for the Philadelphia Eagles, San Diego Chargers and, last year, the St. Louis Rams.

Hart currently is not signed to a team but is hoping he will be. In Ocala, he owns The Brick House, a full-service beauty salon.

Officer Matt H. Friedman went to Kelli Hart's business in northeast Ocala after her husband called authorities.

According to his report, this is what happened:

She told the officer that her husband was using a computer to look at his Facebook account and that he left the building, leaving the account open, and leaving behind his cellphone.

Kelli Hart said she took the phone and put it in her right rear jeans pocket, and that the Facebook page was left open.

Realizing he left his phone inside and his Facebook page open, Clinton Hart attempted to re-enter the business, but was prevented from doing so by his wife.

The two struggled, and Clinton Hart reportedly grabbed his wife's rear pocket, tearing it to retrieve his phone. During the struggle, she was hit in the lower lip.

Tomczak arrested after fight with wife in Bell Acres home

Former Steelers quarterback Mike Tomczak was arrested yesterday after a domestic dispute with his wife at their home in Bell Acres.

Dawn Tomczak suffered a minor scrape and bruises to her foot but did not require hospital treatment, said Bell Acres police Chief Brian Brown.

Brown said his department has been called to the couple's home on Witherow Road for domestic problems before, but that this is the first time that charges have been warranted.

Tito Ortiz arrested, accuses partner of drug use

Mixed martial arts star Tito Ortiz claims his ex-porn star girlfriend is addicted to Oxycontin, and he blames Jenna Jameson’s drug use for his arrest Monday on suspicion of domestic violence.

Ortiz was arrested in Huntington Beach at the home he shares with Jameson and their twin sons. Several hours after posting bail, Ortiz and his attorney accused Jameson of drug addiction and claimed Ortiz never struck her.

“Jenna Jameson has been fighting an ugly battle with an addiction to Oxycontin for well over a year, and this morning, she had a relapse,” attorney Chip Matthews said. “We’re here because Tito was trying to help her. Tito Ortiz never laid a hand on Jenna.”

Ortiz wept openly at the hastily arranged news conference at an Italian restaurant in North Hollywood, saying the support of his family and Jameson’s father “just means the world to me.”

“My parents have gone through an addiction, and I’m seeing a mirror of that,” Ortiz said. “I hold everything dear to my heart that Jenna will be OK.”

Matthews said the 35-year-old Ortiz found drugs in their home Monday morning, leading to the confrontation that ended with Ortiz’s arrest. Matthews also claimed the 36-year-old Jameson has made 911 calls threatening suicide over the past year, but Ortiz stuck with his partner of four years in hopes of salvaging their relationship.

Man charged with killing wife over NHL game

Police in South Lafayette, Pa., say a man killed his wife and set their house on fire after the two argued over him staying up late to watch a playoff game between the Ottawa Senators and the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Allegheny County police say Robert Abrams argued with his wife, Jeannette, early Friday because he had stayed up to watch the end of Game 5 of the first-round series.

Ottawa won Thursday night's game in triple overtime.

Authorities say Jeannette Abrams, 44, was dead before the fire started. They say her husband likely started the blaze to hide the killing.

Robert Abrams was charged Friday with homicide, arson and abuse of a corpse. He suffered burns and other injuries in the fire and was hospitalized.

Ex-Houston QB Pastorini charged with DWI

Former Houston Oilers quarterback Dan Pastorini has been charged with driving while intoxicated following a traffic accident in Bryan, Texas.

Officer Jason James says Pastorini was involved in a three-vehicle collision late Sunday. He was arrested today after being treated for minor injuries, then freed after posting $3,000 bail.

James says the 60-year-old Pastorini, who lives in Houston, about 90 miles southeast of Bryan, also was cited for failure to control speed. Blood test results are pending.

James says Pastorini was alone when his car rear-ended a pickup, which then clipped another vehicle.

Electronic jail records did not list an attorney for Pastorini, who was with the Oilers in the 1970s, then played for the Los Angeles Rams and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Roethlisberger vows to make personal changes

In his first comments since the NFL handed down the penalty last week, Roethlisberger apologized to his teammates and fans for his behavior last month in a Georgia bar, where a 20-year-old college student accused him of sexual assault.

"The commissioner's decision to suspend me speaks clearly that more is expected of me. I am accountable for the consequences of my actions. Though I have committed no crime, I regret that I have fallen short of the values instilled in me by my family."

Roger Goodell cracked down on one of his biggest stars because "you are held to a higher standard as an NFL player, and there is nothing about your conduct in Milledgeville [Ga.] that can remotely be described as admirable, responsible, or consistent with either the values of the league of the expectations of our fans."

"I am sorry to let down my teammates and the entire Steelers fan base. I am disappointed that I have reached this point and will not put myself in this situation again," Roethlisberger said. "I appreciate the opportunities that I have been given in my life and will make the necessary improvements."
